What is a carbon sink?

:::
A sink is where compounds are stored. Oceans, soil, rocks and living organisms can all be carbon sinks, since carbon can be stored within them. How much carbon a sink can store and fix varies. It is generally believed that oceans, soil and forests are the three major types of carbon sinks on Earth. Every year, oceans accumulate up to 2 billion tons of carbon and forests 5 billion tons.
