IntroductionThe small yet exquisite Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is a fern paradise situated at the upstream of Nanshih Creek, a great place for one to enjoy the greenery and serenity. About 50 minutes from Xindian, Neidong is perhaps the most convenient national forest recreational area for the Greater Taipei area in terms of traffic. Located at an elevation between 230 to 800 meters, it is warm and humid with Neidong Creek flowing through, making it a true paradise for ferns: one will find up to 65 species of ferns merely along the short Waterfall Viewing Trail, including the rare Weeping Phlegmariurus and Lomariopsis cochinchinensis. All of these are delicate guests clinging onto tree trunks. Neidou used be referred to as “Wawa Valley”, thanks to the echoes of an army of frogs croaking at night in the valley. In fact, you may find frogs in the trench beside the trail! Neidong Waterfall is the hotspot of the Recreation Area. It is at the end of the Waterfall Viewing Trail, bringing multiple enjoyments to the visitors with three different layers of landscapes and refreshing anions. Why not leave behind the muggy city during the hot summer days, and take a cooling afternoon forest bath at Neidong Forest Recreation Area!
