Wildlife Captive Management

Wildlife captive management in Taiwan is governed by Chapter 4 of the Act on Wildlife Conservation, “Wildlife Management” (Articles 31 to 39). These provisions regulate the registration, keeping, breeding, trade, exhibition, and display of protected wildlife species. Two sets of regulations have been established to oversee the keeping, breeding, trade, and processing of wildlife. On November 30, 2000, the Regulations Governing Raising and Breeding of Protected or Dangerous Wildlife were revised to specify application requirements for facilities that keep or breed protected or dangerous wildlife. These facilities must meet animal welfare standards and provide safe environments. Later, on December 9, 2014, the Regulations Governing Commercial Wildlife Raising and Breeding were revised to balance public livelihoods, animal welfare, and the sustainable use of wildlife resources, while also addressing administrative management needs and the practical conditions of the wildlife keeping, breeding, trading, and processing industry.
