Basic Information
Aogu Wetland Forest Park used to be the major base of Taiwan Sugar Corporation (Taisugar) for farming, fishing, husbandry and sugar cane cultivation after land reclamation. However, owing to the severe land subsidence caused by seawater invading the ground water zone, the farm fell into disuse. With lower terrain surrounded by sea levees, the fish farms and once farmlands turned into natural reservoirs after shower rains. In time, these ponds and wetlands have become a habitat for ever-increasing numbers of migrant birds and resident birds, forming the Aogu Wetland Forest Park we see today. The saplings in the enormous reforestation area will turn into woods in ten or twenty years, making Aogu Wetland an international-level environment with diversified forest forms rich in wetland ecological resources. Themed with “Wetlands Preservation” and “Environmental Education”, Aogu Wetland Forest Park is developed as a base for eco-tourism, education, and research alike.
