IntroductionHidden in Fonglin, Hualien, Lintianshan used to be known as MOLISAKA (the pronunciation similar to “MORISAKA” [Note 1] in Japanese). After liberation from Japan, it was renamed as Senrong. It is the most complete, unique lumbering base preserved in Taiwan. Back in the glorious days of lumbering in the 1960s, it was referred as “Little Shanghai”, which was one of the four prominent forest areas of Taiwan. Lintianshan is the most significant base as well as the witness to the development history of forestry in Taiwan. Note 1: “SAKA” in Japanese means “slope”. The reason Japanese called Lintianshan MORISAKA” was due to the ample woods on the hill, a tribute from Japanese to Lintianshan.
