The Xinliao Waterfall Trail can be accessed from Zhongshan Village in Dongshan Township, Yilan County. It runs up the Xinliao Creek valley to the Xinliao Waterfall. The source of the creek is in the 980m-high Xinliao Mountain. As a result of the fault lines in the terrain, there are ten waterfalls along the way. The Xinliao Waterfall is the one at the bottom. The rapid current of the creek flows eastward and converges with the Jjuliao Creek to form the river of hope for the folks in Yilan—the Dongshan River.
