The Hemlock Forest Natural Trail is in the transitional area between conifer forests and broadleaf forests in the mid altitude where ocean currents bring a lot of vapor which condenses into clouds and mists all year round, creates a feeling of mysteriousness and also serves as a source of water for Taipinghan Villa. A round trip takes about 2.5 hours. On the way, visitors can see soaring ancient trees with dense foliage that sunlight can hardly come through, and there seems to be smoke in the air constantly. The trailhead is behind the virgin forest above the villa. Visitors have to climb up the four hundred steps to reach the trail. The steps are lined with purple-leaf maple trees on both sides, making the trail look like a red tunnel.
