Danshuei River Mangrove Nature Reserve

Danshuei River Mangrove Nature Reserve is located where Danshui river converges with the Keelung River. This area is typical of river-mouth wetland, which is made up mainly of mangrove, Cyperus malaccenis, and reed as well as mudskipper, and crabs, forming marshland ecosystems.

The mangrove (shuei-bi-zhai) accounts for large scale local vegetation, being the primary plant of the area. Since mangrove is of evergreen vegetation, its root gets into slate root, and many aerial branches from the trunk help support its root, which can serve as soil consolidator, tide breaker and nurse.

The environment is for growth of life, plenty of fishes and invertebrates are found attracted to it. Lots of different migratory birds visit the area, many are snipes, also kingfishers, egrets can be found.
