Information Date Established June 27, 1986 Area( hectare ) 86.40 Primary Object for Protection Amentotaxus formosana Li Location Forest Compartment No. 39 of Dawu Working Circle, National Forest Management Agency Taitung Branch, FANCA Taiwan Amentotaxus Nature Reserve is situated in the area at 900-1,500 meters above sea level. It is subtropical broad-leaved forest and the major plants in this area is natural broad-leaved plants. In 1988, it had announced by Cultural Heritage Preservation Act that Taiwan Amentotaxus is Rare and Valuable Species within this nature reserve. Taiwan Amentotaxus are small trees which normally grow within 15 meters. It grows along valley or damping land. Taiwan Amentotaxus was found during the process of a forest survey in 1973. In order to protect this precious plant, Dawu Working Cycle Taiwan Amentotaxus Nature Reserve with 86.4 hectare was established in 1986. There are 275 plants of Taiwan Amentotaxus on the list to be protected nowadays. The biggest is 36 cm breast diameter. Overall, the condition of reservation in this area is excellent and the number of plant is under control with certain amount.
