Central Management Agency Minisrtry of Agriculture Local Management Agency Taitung Branch, Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency Primary Protected Features Forest Ecosystem Located in the Huatung Valley, Guanshan is a green corridor that inhabits rich wildlife and preserved forest. The peak of Guanshan is 3,668 meters above sea level. The area is also the biggest wildlife habitat in eastern Taiwan. More than 1500 Walnut trees per acre are preserved in the area. The forest is consisted of needle-leaved, mixed, and broad-leaved woods, as well as many of other rare plants. It also inhabits 29 kinds of mammal, 65 kinds of bird, and 29 kinds of amphibian and reptile. Guanshan is an important habitat for major wildlife animals. Selenarctos thibetanus formosanus (Formosan black bear), Nisaetus nipalensis (Hodgso’s Hawk-Eagle), Dienagkistrodon accepts (Hundred-pace snake), Syrmaticus mikado, Lophura swinholi and many nearly extinct and protected species all find home in this beautiful and abundant natural spectacular.
