Guanwu Broad-tailed Swallowtail Major Wildlife Habitat

Guanwu Broad-tailed Swallowtail Butterfly Major Wildlife Habitat is the first wildlife habitat targeting on preserving insect and focuses on preserving critically endangered protected wildlife. Broad-tailed swallowtail butterfly was first discovered in 1932 at the riverside in Yilan County and it has an honourable title of “National Butterfly”. The stunning features of Broad-tailed Swallowtail butterfly and the difficulty in capture and collection has contributed to its expensive trading price, which posted ongoing risk of illegal capture and collection.

Taiwan Sassafras is a special rare plant in Taiwan. Although it distributes across broad areas, its lack of tolerance of shade caused its sporadic and isolated existence as it is gradually replaced by other tree species. It is thus valuable and precious that there is a large area of Taiwan Sassafras within this habitat. Taiwan Sassafras is not only economically valuable but more importantly it is the only herb for Broad-tailed Swallowtail butterfly.
