Later, the government set up protected area systems, which allowed the primeval coniferous and broadleaf forests here to be conserved intact.The coniferous and broadleaf forests in Lulinshan Major Wildlife Habitat ranges from 1700 to 2860 meters above sea level. Since human interference is relatively small and transportation inconvenient, the primeval forests here remain intact. Flora such as red cypress and Formosa yellow cypress is representative of oak forests and western hemlock vegetation in Taiwan's central and southern mountains.The survey on wildlife in the area found as many as 19 species of mammals. Formosan macaques are the large mammals most likely to be seen here. More birds can be found in July and in January.
