Aboriginal people call this place “Chuwa Zarom”, meaning “a place that water flows everywhere”. Jin-shuei-ying is surrounded by mountains in all directions. When air currents rise in low pressure and under intensive sun exposure, heavy moisture are blown from valley to summit, creating high humidity with an average annual rainfall of 5,200mm, the second highest in Taiwan. As many as 238 fern species call this area home, where 56% of it is covered by broadleaf forests and the rest 44% by artificial forests. Fifty-nine species of rare plants and several endemic species grow here. On the southeast of this habitat lies the Jin-shuei-ying Trail, built nearly 500 years ago as a major road for trading between the west and east of Taiwan for the aboriginal people.
