The most famous species in the region is Taiwan's precious conifer - Formosan amentotaxus (Amentotaxus formosana). It is one of the rare and valuable plant species protected by the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act.  Moreover, it is an endemic species of Taiwan that survived from the Ice Age, and now has a reputation as a "living fossil". At present, they are densely populated and regenerating naturally.
