The lake serves as an important wildlife habitat where rich flora and fauna thrive. Being the deepest alpine lake in Taiwan still untapped by modern civilization, Shuang-guei Lake has been a longed-for paradise for many climbers. Its surroundings are full of primary Chamaecyparis taiwanensis and Taiwania cryptomerioides forests. Thanks to abundant rainfall and high humidity, the pteridophyte-quotient here reaches 4.10. As many as 588 vascular plant species in 122 families have been documented in this area, in particular, the orchid family. Rare plants include Taxus sumatrana, Ilex tugitakayamensis, Helwingia japonica sp. formosana, Pentapanax castanopsidicola, and Anoectochilus formosanus Hayata.
