In recent years, the awareness of ecological conservation among the Taiwanese people has increased and they have actively participated in public affairs. The Forestry Bureau has specially set up "National Forest Land Treatment Engineering Information Network" to actively disclose management project information, as well as publish surveys, design reviews, briefings, and education and training related to management projects. Members of the public who care about environmental ecology and disaster management are encouraged to make good use of information and participate in the project, so that the management projects can be even more environmentally friendly.
Lin Hwa-ching, director of the Forestry Bureau, said that since 2018, the bureau has comprehensively promoted project ecological evaluation to reduce the impact of the management projects on the ecosystem. So far, more than 350 projects have properly implemented eco-friendly measures. For the project base and the surrounding environment, we use eco-friendly strategies such as avoidance, reduction, mitigation and compensation to reduce the impact on the environment and ecology, and adhere to the goal of "minimizing the scale of the project and optimizing the ecological friendliness" for disaster management.
In order to strengthen the eco-friendly mechanism for projects, the Forestry Bureau has further implemented "information disclosure" and "citizen participation". People with relevant ecological background, relevant units, local community, and NGOs will be invited to participate in the surveys and related meetings of the management projects, in order to communicate the project plan and the possible ecological conservation principles. The newly-launched "National Forest Land Treatment Engineering Information Network" will also actively disclose all project-related information. The public can go to "News and Notices" to learn more about the surveys, review meetings, construction briefings, or educational training of the projects that are under the jurisdiction of the Forestry Bureau. Or they can also use the "Map Display" function to query and browse the annual project implementation information and distribution location, and set the map layer to see whether the relevant project involves sensitive environmental zones. In "Public Download", they can download the contents of the National Forest Land Treatment Engineering Eco-Friendly Mechanism Manual and related reference resources.
The Forestry Bureau said that the "National Forest Land Treatment Engineering Information Network " will enable open sharing of the information, as well as help all sectors understand what has been done by the Forestry Bureau when it comes to the ecological evaluation of the management projects. It also welcomes suggestions from the public to actively improve project quality and environmental maintenance. With regards to the information disclosed on the website, maintenance of instant management, and the enhancement of related functions, the Forestry Bureau has held several working meetings to review and make amendments, and held two public exchange forums. It will continue to communicate with all sectors and will also strive to improve the website functions. The public is invited to make more use of the network.
