In order to give citizens more access to forests and experience the beneficial and diverse ecological services, Lalashan Shenmu Trail will be unveiled as a National Forest Recreation Area beginning April 18. To improve the safety and service quality of the recreational area, upon its opening, visitors will be charged a cleaning fee in accordance with the "Fee Standards for the Cleaning and Maintenance of Entertainment Facilities in Forest Recreation Areas." A full ticket is priced at NT$200, and a half ticket is priced at NT$100. A NT$10 discount will be given to the elderly above 65 years old, children between the ages of three and six, and elementary students attending field trips during non-holidays. Please visit the Taiwan Forest Recreation website for more information on the recreation areas and ticket prices. Lalashan National Forest Recreation Area is located in mid-altitude cloud forests that have retained their primitive state and is the 19th forest recreation area established by the Forestry Bureau. It is also the first national forest recreation area jointly established through a consensus between the indigenous tribes and government agencies in more than two decades. The forest recreation area is enveloped by mist year round. It is also rich in flora, fauna and ecological resources. Taiwan Red Cypress and Taiwan Cypress in this area form forests of giant trees, making it the best location in Northern Taiwan to appreciate giant trees up close. In recent years, the Hsinchu Forest District Office has actively invested in the optimization of services and facilities. It is keen on examining the health and ages of giant trees, establishing an alliance of shuttle transportation services, and developing guides capable of offering in-depth tours. Its visitor center will also begin to provide simple dining and exhibition. Lalashan National Forest Recreation Area's new unveiling and services will allow citizens to once again enjoy the wonderful scenery of Northern Taiwan's cloud forests. Jung-Sheng Hsia, Director of Hsinchu Forest District Office, stated that to celebrate the official opening of Lalashan National Forest Recreation Area, aside from discounted and free admission, all visitors will be charged the half ticket price of NT$100 until September 30, 2023. An additional 20% discount will be given to visitors who travel to the park via the "Lalashan Fleet," a locally formed transportation service who signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Hsinchu Forest District Office. The public is welcome to visit the misty forests of giant trees after the cherry blossom season in March to experience the majestic and pristine beauty of nature.
