Branch Office Overview
I. Jurisdiction
The Hsinchu Branch oversees lands across New Taipei City, Taoyuan City,
Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, and Miaoli County. Among these, Wulai District
in New Taipei City, Fuxing District in Taoyuan City, Jianshi and Wufeng
Townships in Hsinchu County, and Tai’an Township in Miaoli County are highland
indigenous areas. Guanxi Township in Hsinchu County, and Nanzhuang and Shitan
Townships in Miaoli County are lowland indigenous areas. For forest
management, the jurisdiction is divided into six working circles: Wulai, Daxi,
Zhudong, Dahu, Nanzhuang, and Da’an River. It also includes former provincial
lands, protected forests outside the designated areas, and transferred
forestry lands, with a total area of approximately 171,016 hectares. Forest
management, planning, recreation, nature conservation, and watershed
management are carried out by five work stations located in Wulai, Sanxia,
Daxi, Zhudong, and Dahu.
II. Functions
Environmental Dimension: Promote ecological silviculture and eco-friendly
production, establish long-term forest monitoring systems, conserve
biodiversity, and implement environmentally friendly watershed and flood
control measures.
Social Dimension: Develop forest therapy and environmental education,
strengthen forest protection in partnership with communities, and promote
co-management of resources with indigenous communities. - Economic Dimension:
Encourage diversified use of forest products, develop site-appropriate
understory economies, enhance forest resources, and plan for value-added
utilization to achieve sustainable industries and shared benefits for all.
In addition, through forest management activities and monitoring, the Branch
assesses forest stock and harvest levels. Management operations are planned in
accordance with regulations on silviculture, harvesting, and soil and water
conservation. The goals include enhancing forest carbon sink, strengthening
forest management, and promoting the use of domestic timber while balancing
climate adaptation, ecosystem services, and industrial development.
