Hehuan East Peak stands at 3,421m above sea level. It happens to be located on the border between Nantou County and Hualien County. The trailhead is near Hehuan Villa at the 33km mark of Provincial Highway 14A. The trail measures 1,056m in length and is a bit steep. The forest lines in the mountains are conspicuous. Jade Mountain arrow bamboo forms grassy slopes. Taiwan white firs grow in concaves and on the lee side. The scenery changes with the seasons: blossoming wild flowers in spring, lush green in summer, bleak in autumn and spread of snow in winter. Jade mountain rhododendrons prosper along the Hehuan East Peak Trail. In May and June, a sea of fuchsia blossoms makes the mountain colorful. There used to be a ski training center on the east side of the East Peak and deserted cable car stations can be seen along the trail.
