Penghu County Wang-an Island Green Turtle Nesting Refuge

During the nights at May to October, in Penghu County Wangan Island Green Sea Turtle Breeding Refuge, there are often several green sea turtles boarding shore and laying eggs.

Mature turtles will return to the sea areas near the original beach where they were hatched to mate during the breeding season. Female turtles remian nearby until the eggs are matured and then swim up to beach to lay eggs. Therefore, it is extremely important to protect the sea turtle breeding habitats where they were hatched.
The breeding habitat of green turtle in Penghu County Wangan Island is the relatively stable breeding habitat currently remaining in Taiwan.
