Every year in September and October, thousands of black-faced spoonbill fly from Korea and northeastern China to the wetland at Zengwen River Mouth in Tainan City for wintering. They rest on the wetland during daytime and feed in the nearby fish farms at night. When spring comes, they grow yellow breeding plumage, which extends from the back of their heads to their breasts, and return north for breeding. The Tainan City Zengwen River Mouth is currently the largest black-faced spoonbill habitat in the world and an important world-class bird-watching site with well-equipped facilities for bird lovers to appreciate this beautiful migratory species.
