The natural forest area in Taiwan measures 1,527,500 hectares, representing 73% of the forestland across the island. Artificial forests cover 20% of the forestland. Majority of the natural forests are of the broad-leaved type, constituting more than 60% of the natural forest area. Majority of the artificial forests are of the coniferous type, making up about 51% of the artificially forested area.
