The predecessor of the Luodong Forestry Culture Park, known as the Luodong Forestry Station, was established in 1924 as the only distribution center for Taiwan cypress wood in Taipingshan. With the discontinuation of the Luodong Forest Railway in 1979 and the transformation of the forestry industry in 1991, the Luodong Forestry Station gradually fell into disrepair and was abandoned. In 2009, however, it was revived as the Luodong Forestry Cultural Park and opened to the public. Since then, it has become an important cultural landmark and tourist attraction in Yilan, drawing between 800,000 and 1,000,000 tourists every year. In an effort to improve the quality of services in the region and pursue the policy of promoting domestic timber, the local timber merchant JD2017 CO., LTD. opened a Specialty Wood Shop in Luodong Forestry Culture Park through a public tender as the first place in Taiwan specializing in the sale of verified and traceable domestic timber. The shop officially opened on Friday February 2, 2024 to offer customers a safe way to purchase domestic timber from legal sources. The premises also feature an introduction to the history of verified and traceable domestic timber and offer refreshments to provide park visitors with an immersive and multicultural sightseeing experience.
The Specialty Wood Shop is run by JD2017 CO., LTD., the first company in Taiwan whose products are allowed to carry the Traceable Forest Product (TAP) Label. All wood products available made from domestic timber have been verified as traceable. This makes the shop the first accredited supplier of verified and traceable domestic timber in Taiwan. Visitors have the opportunity to feel the smooth texture of the wood, making their visit a multi-layered sensory experience. The shop also serves indirectly as a place to promote net-zero emissions, revitalize the wood and bamboo industry, and increase the self-sufficiency rate of domestic timber. Business hours are daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop is closed on Wednesdays. The Yilan Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency welcomes the public to visit and purchase cultural and creative goods made from domestic timber legally sourced.
The shop not only sells domestic timber, but also exhibits furniture and cultural and creative goods made from carefully-selected domestic timber, showcasing the unique and elegant style of wooden products. The shop also allows visitors to experience activities like making essential oils from wood and creating their own personalized scents or handcrafting their own wooden creations. The shop sells beverages, snacks, and other products that carry the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency’s Green Conservation Label. It offers customers not only a place where they can shop at their leisure, but also a cultural venue where they can experience the beauty of domestic timber and enjoy a good time together.
